What features does Skype on 3 support?
Skype on 3 supports the following features:
- Skype-to-Skype calling
- Instant messaging
- Calling mobiles and landlines abroad (requires a little Skype Credit or a subscription)
- Participating in group calls
The following features are not supported:
- Video calling
- Calls to your Skype Number
- Skype SMS
- Skype voicemail
- Calling domestic mobiles and landlines
I heard that Skype had been discontinued on the 3 network, is this true?
Unfortunately, Skype on 3 is no longer available in the following countries:
- Australia
- Austria
- Denmark
- Hong Kong
- Italy
- Sweden
However, it is still available and will work as normal over the 3 network in Ireland and the UK. Some versions of the application such as those named “iskoot”, will also be discontinued. We recommend you contact 3 directly to see which version you have on your phone.

Alternatively, you may be able to set up Skype To Go™ numbers to use on your mobile. Skype To Go allows you to make calls to friends and family abroad at great Skype rates, and it’s free to set up.

Is Skype available for BlackBerry® devices?
If you have a BlackBerry smartphone powered by the BlackBerry 10 platform, you can download Skype for free from the BlackBerry World application store*.

Can I use Skype on 3 abroad or over WiFi?
The Skype on 3 application only works on the 3 network in your home country, so you won’t be able to use it abroad or over WiFi.
Using it over your 3 network costs nothing. You can make and receive Skype-to-Skype calls and instant message your contacts for free. It won’t use your data connection, your call plan minutes or your 3 pay-as-you-go credit.
You need a little Skype Credit or a subscription to call a mobile or landline number abroad.

Will it cost me anything to use Skype on 3?
Skype on 3 doesn’t cost you anything to use. You can make Skype-to-Skype calls and instant message your contacts for free. Skype on 3 won’t use your data connection, your minutes or your 3 credit, so you can use it as much or as little as you like. Not only that, but it uses very little battery power.
You can also call friends and family abroad on their mobile or landline at great Skype rates. All you need is a little Skype Credit or a subscription.
Remember, you can’t call any domestic numbers using Skype on 3. To do that, you will have to call over the 3 network using your 3 call plan minutes or credit.
How do I start Skype on 3?
To start Skype, simply select Skype from the Applications or Downloads folder and sign in using your Skype Name and password.
If this is the first time you’ve started Skype and you don’t have a Skype account, don’t worry. You can join us by easily creating a new Skype account on your phone. Simply select Create account and follow the instructions on the screen.
Alternatively you can visit Skype.com on your mobile browser or using your computer and select Join Skype at the top of the page. Follow the instructions on the screen to create your Skype account.
After you’ve signed into Skype for the first time, you will be signed in automatically from then on. Your 3 phone will remember your Skype Name and password and will sign you in automatically when you turn it on. If you would like to stop this from happening, you can disable it.
To disable being signed in automatically:
- On your contact list, select Options.
- Select Sign Out.
Signing out of the Skype application will erase your password. You will have to enter it again the next time you want to sign in.
You can sign in to Skype on 3 and Skype on a computer at the same time, but we don’t recommend it. You may experience some unexpected behaviour such as incoming calls or chats sometimes being received only by the PC or the phone, but not by both simultaneously.
